A high-energy game combining elements of volleyball and handball. Players must work together to keep the ball in the air and score goals.

From the All Eyes on Me retro party-game collection, this old-fashioned favourite brings simple fun to a modern gathering.

At a glance

Players: 6–12 players.
You will need: Stable chairs and a soft beach ball.
Cost: Free instructions; use items you already have. Optional props or prizes may cost extra.

How to play

  1. Arrange two facing rows of five stable chairs, about 1.5 metres apart, with a clear space between them.
  2. Make two teams of six. Five players per team sit as forwards; the sixth stands behind their team’s row as the defender.
  3. Toss a soft beach ball into the middle. Seated players tap it towards the ground behind the opposing row.
  4. A team scores one point when the ball lands behind the other row before its defender returns it.
  5. Restart from the middle after each point. Play a five-minute round and compare scores.

Host’s tip

For smaller groups, use two equal teams and fewer chairs. Gentle taps keep the ball manageable.

Agree on the rules before you start. Guests can join, adapt a movement or pass; use points or optional playful challenges wherever the retro rules mention forfeits.
