A guessing game of persuasion and observation, where players attempt to identify their chosen partner.

From the All Eyes on Me retro party-game collection, this old-fashioned favourite brings simple fun to a modern gathering.

At a glance

Players: 4+ players.
You will need: Chairs arranged in a semicircle.
Cost: Free instructions; use items you already have. Optional props or prizes may cost extra.

How to play

  1. Arrange seated players in a semicircle, with an empty chair beside each.
  2. An equal number of guests wait out of earshot. The host secretly pairs each with someone seated.
  3. Invite a waiting guest back to choose an empty chair.
  4. Clap for the correct partner; say ‘Try again’ for an incorrect choice.
  5. Continue until every guest has found their partner, then swap roles.

Host’s tip

The retro title keeps its character, while friendly spoken feedback replaces hissing at a guest.

Agree on the rules before you start. Guests can join, adapt a movement or pass; use points or optional playful challenges wherever the retro rules mention forfeits.
