A fun game of quick reflexes and strategy as players try to avoid being “snatched.”

From the All Eyes on Me retro party-game collection, this old-fashioned favourite brings simple fun to a modern gathering.

At a glance

Players: 4+ players.
You will need: A list of bird names.
Cost: Free instructions; use items you already have. Optional props or prizes may cost extra.

How to play

  1. Give each player a bird name and choose one guest as the storyteller.
  2. Players rest their hands on their own knees.
  3. The storyteller weaves the bird names into a short story. When your bird is named, move a hand behind your back.
  4. The storyteller earns a point for spotting a player who misses their cue; players earn a point for reacting correctly.
  5. When ‘bat’ is mentioned, everyone moves a hand. Rotate the storyteller after a short round.

Host’s tip

The ‘snatching’ is spotting a missed cue rather than grabbing anyone’s hand.

Agree on the rules before you start. Guests can join, adapt a movement or pass; use points or optional playful challenges wherever the retro rules mention forfeits.
