This classic game of deception and quick thinking is a hit with players of all ages. The goal is to pass the ring around the circle without the Finder noticing!

From the All Eyes on Me retro party-game collection, this old-fashioned favourite brings simple fun to a modern gathering.

At a glance

Players: 6+ players.
You will need: A smooth curtain ring and a loop of string.
Cost: Free instructions; use items you already have. Optional props or prizes may cost extra.

How to play

  1. Thread a small curtain ring onto a piece of string and tie the ends to form a loop large enough for all players to hold.
  2. Players stand or sit in a circle, holding the string with both hands.
  3. One player stands in the centre as the “Finder.”
  4. Players move the string through their hands to secretly pass the ring around the circle.
  5. The Finder can stop the game at any moment and touch a player’s hand. If the ring is there, the Finder swaps places with the player.
  6. The game continues until everyone has had a turn as the Finder.

Host’s tip

Add music or time limits to make it more fast-paced and challenging.

Agree on the rules before you start. Guests can join, adapt a movement or pass; use points or optional playful challenges wherever the retro rules mention forfeits.
