A quirky game of opposites where players must react quickly to follow contradictory movements.

From the All Eyes on Me retro party-game collection, this old-fashioned favourite brings simple fun to a modern gathering.

At a glance

Players: 3+ players.
You will need: Two hats.
Cost: Free instructions; use items you already have. Optional props or prizes may cost extra.

How to play

  1. Select one player as the leader and give them two hats.
  2. The leader chooses another player and hands them one of the hats.
  3. The second player must do the opposite of the leader’s actions. For example, if the leader wears their hat, the other player must not wear theirs.
  4. If the leader holds the hat in their right hand, the other player must hold it in their left, and so on.
  5. Any mistakes result in an optional playful challenge, and the leader can switch to another player.

Host’s tip

Add fast, unexpected movements to trip up the participants.

Agree on the rules before you start. Guests can join, adapt a movement or pass; use points or optional playful challenges wherever the retro rules mention forfeits.
