A game of quick reflexes and sharp memory where players must act swiftly when their name is called.

From the All Eyes on Me retro party-game collection, this old-fashioned favourite brings simple fun to a modern gathering.

At a glance

Players: 4+ players.
You will need: A large lightweight plastic lid.
Cost: Free instructions; use items you already have. Optional props or prizes may cost extra.

How to play

  1. Sit in a circle and give each player an animal name.
  2. The host spins a large lightweight plastic lid on its edge in the centre and calls an animal name.
  3. That player tries to stop the lid before it falls flat.
  4. A successful catch earns one point; a missed catch simply starts the next turn.
  5. Take turns as spinner and compare points after everyone has played.

Host’s tip

Use a plastic lid rather than a heavy breadboard, and leave plenty of room for one player to move at a time.

Agree on the rules before you start. Guests can join, adapt a movement or pass; use points or optional playful challenges wherever the retro rules mention forfeits.
