An old parlour challenge becomes a lighthearted aim-and-breath game using a paper candle and a fluttering paper flame.

This is a refreshed adaptation from the All Eyes on Me retro party-game collection.

At a glance

Players: 3+ players.
You will need: A paper candle and a tissue-paper flame.
Cost: Free instructions; use items you already have. Optional props or prizes may cost extra.

How to play

  1. Draw a candle on stiff paper and stand it on a table. Balance a small tissue-paper ‘flame’ loosely on top.
  2. Seat a player a comfortable distance from the table and let them study the target.
  3. They close their eyes, keep their seat, and try one gentle puff towards the paper flame.
  4. Open eyes to check whether the flame moved. Each player has three attempts.
  5. Compare successful attempts or play cooperatively.

Host’s tip

Use paper throughout: this modern adaptation needs no lit candle, spinning or blindfolded walking.

Agree on the rules before you start. Guests can join, adapt a movement or pass; use points or optional playful challenges wherever the retro rules mention forfeits.
