Plan for spring where you are celebrating

Plan a spring wedding around changeable weather, comfortable outdoor arrangements and a palette that reflects your own style.

Australia: September–November. United States: March–May. These conventional seasonal months are a starting point. Local climate, altitude and the destination matter more than an assumed seasonal look.

Make the indoor option as welcoming as the outdoor one

Check whether the backup space can accommodate the guest list, ceremony layout and accessible seating comfortably. Ask when the venue needs a final decision and what changes can be made close to the event.

Plan for wind as well as rain. Lightweight decorations, veils and loose papers can need attention outdoors. Ask suppliers how they will secure equipment and styling safely.

Flowers, colours and personal style

Speak with your florist about what is available locally for your date and budget. The season alone does not guarantee a particular flower will be available or affordable.

Blush, lilac, pale blue, cream and green can create a soft palette, while bolder colours can make the celebration feel equally fresh. Try accessories against the actual fabric: a pearl-look finish, crystal earring or coloured wrist detail can add interest without a complete matching set.

Guest comfort and realistic timing

Tell guests how much time they may spend outdoors and suggest a light layer if useful. Consider seating and shaded or sheltered places rather than assuming everyone can stand comfortably.

Guests with pollen sensitivities may appreciate an indoor option. Discuss any particular needs early. Check local school holidays, public holidays and venue demand before fixing accommodation and transport plans.

Your seasonal planning checklist

  • Check typical weather and daylight for the venue and date.
  • Agree the backup space and decision process with the venue.
  • Plan comfortable clothing, travel and sheltered arrivals.
  • Tell guests about surfaces, outdoor periods and useful layers.
  • Check the forecast and official warnings closer to the event.
